The Skybolt is a conventional metal tube and fabric construction homebuilt biplane. It was designed by Lamar Steen as a high school engineering project. The first one flew in 1970. Since then they have become a popular homebuilt aircraft. They are straightforward to build and are stressed for aerobatics. The original version of the Skybolt used a Lycoming HO-360 engine, but later versions were able to use the more powerful Lycoming O-540 series. Over 400 Skybolts are known to have been built in 29 different countries.
